Rather than waste the (time or) money to replace or repair it, I decided to go with an external. This one seemed to be pretty popular among the Mac crowd and it was pretty cheap. Had all the features I wanted, DL DVD burning, external power (USB powered gives you flaky burns), LightScribe, and a good solid enclosure. So far, I've burned a few LightScribe CD's, looks wonderful. I've burned a few DVD's but due to crappy media (see my other reviews), no LightScribe on those. This thing is quite, fast and looks pretty after you peel off the protective film. The software disk that comes with this is just Windows, so Mac users, go find the LaCie LightScribe [Free] software on MacUpdate, and you'll be good to go burning those LightScribe labels.
